Julio Olalla
Julio Olalla, founder and president of The Newfield Network, is a master at generating learning environments that establish the trust, safety, respect, and well-being that accelerate the potential for new thinking and action. For more than 30 years, he has trained over 50,000 individuals and worked with more than 300 organizations and government leaders to challenge traditional thinking and create better teams and stronger leaders that can responsibly navigate uncertainty and turbulence.
Julio is a masterful keynote speaker, having addressed large audiences in many countries on the topics of leadership, organizational learning, education, and coaching. His message inspires audiences to review not only the content of what they are thinking and learning, but also their interpretation of learning itself and its practices. He believes that our current understanding of what it is “to know” and “to learn” are insufficient to address the concerns we are facing as a global community.
Julio is probably best known for his masterful skills in supporting others to tackle tough issues, personal and professional, with great heart, wisdom, and innovative thinking. In 2006, Julio was invited to work with the new president of Chile, Michele Bachelet, and her Cabinet on issues of building a powerful and trusting leadership team. He continues to work with various ministries in the Chilean government on topics of improving communication, building trust, innovative leadership, and building emotional competencies.

In the organizational realm, he has worked with senior management at companies such as NIKE, ING, Chiquita, AARP and Epson, to name a few. Julio and his international team work with organizations to develop more resilient, wiser leaders and management teams. The leaders of today are facing enormous complexity that traditional learning and training interventions are insufficient to address. Julio generates a safe and empowering context of learning where leaders can face and address their greatest challenges. He is also an expert in the area of trust and speaks on this topic with organizations.
In these troubled times, it is a great relief to read Julio’s essays. In careful, perspective analysis, he lays bare the bones of our prevailing rational, materialistic world view and the dry and constrained hand it has laid on our notion of learning. —Bernice Hill, PhD, Jungian Analyst, author of Money and the Spiritual Warrior. |
Originally a lawyer in the Chilean government, Julio and his family made their way to the United States after the September 1973 Chilean coup d'état. By drawing upon his own dramatic life story and experiences, Julio is able to work in a deep and meaningful way with people from very diverse backgrounds and fields of study. .
Julio is the author of From Knowledge to Wisdom: Essays on the Crisis in Contemporary Learning. He currently lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his family.
In an era when many of us face enormous challenges, we also realize that our traditional training, interpretations and ways of acting are often not enough. We work longer hours; we learn time management systems; we read books; attend seminars; and yet, we still must continually learn new, more productive ways of addressing demands on ourselves. Often, we live with a nagging feeling that something is missing. I founded the Newfield Network to address this primary concern that individuals and organizations are facing today. —Julio Olalla |
