Body and Movement Program (BaM) In Coaching. In Leadership. In Life.
Learn to walk in a domain of coaching and leadership rarely visited.
Since 2008, Body and Movement (Cuerpo y Movimiento) has been taught by Newfield in Chile, Mexico, and Spain in Spanish only. We are thrilled to now offer it in the US for the first time beginning in May 2012 in English. This program is open to all coaches and leaders. ICF certification is not a requirement.
The Body and Movement Program in the US is an advanced coach and leadership training program that is four months long. It is focused on developing and expanding distinctions and your capacity to coach and lead. It is designed for trained coaches or experienced leaders who want to expand the integration of the body in their coaching and leading. Participants do not need to be Newfield graduates.
The aim of this program is not to "learn about" the body, but rather to have a fully immersive experience physically, emotionally, and cognitively that produces a different way to see the world. Participants should expect to be physically and emotionally challenged, and will often find themselves out of their comfort zone of traditional learning. These are the conditions that produce the learning we offer.
“I found BaM a phenomenal place to learn and practice new distinctions of our body that empower the leader to connect to its inner source—to find renewal, grounding and center." —Alejandra Solano

Philosophical Roots
Each of us lives in a body. It is inseparable from our existence. Our bodies share commonalities as well as differences. To live, we must have the ability to breathe, take nourishment, eliminate waste, sleep, regenerate, move and interact with others, express emotions, and speak thoughts.
To a certain degree, we are "wired" in particular ways. Each person's body has biologically determined aspects, but there are also significant portions of our somatic participation in life that are historical. They are learned either in our lifetime or they have been learned by our ancestors and passed on to us through culture.
The aims of Body and Movement are:
To exponentially increase coaching and leadership capacity through personal experience, practice, and activites |
To understand the historical learning that has produced the human being he or she is |
These explorations include strength and endurance as well as tenderness, sensitivity, rhythm, emotional capacity, blending, and trust.
The material in this program draws from many teachers and cultural traditions, as well as Newfield's body of work. The structure and methodology of the program is a creation of Newfield Network. The last 20 years of research and development, dedicated to the training of coaches, has given birth to this program focused on body and movement.
In this program, participants will:
Build models of bodily and emotional connection |
Be immersed in relevant somatic learning models from many sources |
Integrate these models and revise their interpretation of learning |
Nurture distinctions and powerful models that enhance the transformation process |
Explore the rhythms of our bodies and the relationship to the world around us |
All in the service of expanding the territory of coaching and leadership |

Format
Body and Movement is a four-month program. It opens and closes with two, five-day conferences. Between the two conferences you will be coached, you will coach, read papers, write, work with a study group, and produce and deliver a workshop to others. The conferences are held in a rustic conference center in the mountains of Colorado.
Staffing
Body and Movement is led by senior course trainers from Newfield Network. The team includes coaches, assistants, and a program manager. Privacy and discretion are our top priorities.
Accompanying you on this journey are Dan Newby, Josephina Santiago, and Gonzalo Cordova.

You describe this as an "immersive experience." What does this mean?
Often, we detach ourselves from our own experiences with distractions like electronic communication, “work,” TV, and email. In BaM, we will challenge, invite, and explore your capacity to unplug, and fully experience this program for every learnable nugget.
Does BaM tie directly to being a coach?
This program was designed by coaches and for coaches, particularly ontological coaches. However, you will be able to successfully apply the learning, core models and distinctions to your personal and professional life, regardless of your profession.
