How did we get started? We began in 1991, led by a visionary thinker, Julio Olalla, who emigrated from Chile to the United States after the 1973 coup d’état. Julio’s greatest gift is his ability to synthesize relevant teachings from great thinkers in a multitude of disciplines and to make these teachings available, relevant, and actionable.
For six years, Newfield offered a personal development program in North and South America called Mastering the Art of Professional Coaching. In 1998, we began offering an updated version of this program to those who were interested in becoming coaches. We aligned this program with the competencies and ethics of the International Coach Federation and continue to teach this program in six countries, now called Newfield’s Certified Coach Training Program. We also continued to teach our world-renowned, core personal leadership program, Foundations.
In the late-1990s, we began to get requests from organizations who were tired of spending money on traditional training and leadership courses that were not producing results. They wanted the kind of learning environment and the kind of conversations that they could find in our programs. We began to offer customized programs for organizations in the areas of building trust, communication, and leadership.
Today we have offices in five countries (soon to be seven). We offer executive coaching and coach training around the globe. We offer individual and organizational programs and coaching in multiple languages. We are most proud of our international community of alumni who are a force and a voice in the world that is of service to humanity, especially in these turbulent and uncertain times.
Most leadership development programs I have experienced teach the predominate “theory du jour.” This program is different; it gave me timeless principles and practices for leading.
