Our Senior Staff

Julio Olalla, founder and president
Dan Newby, vice president, International Development & Programs

As founder of Newfield Network, Julio Olalla is regarded as a pioneer of the coaching profession and transformational learning fields.

For over 25 years, Julio has trained thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations, CEOs, and government figureheads to challenge traditional thinking, and create stronger leaders to navigate the turbulence facing our global community.

His multi-cultural perspective makes him an in-demand, trusted advisor of Fortune 500 companies, international governments, and high-profile individuals, such as the Chilean President.

Julio Olalla is a sought after guest and motivational speaker, addressing audiences on leadership, organizational learning, education, emotion, and executive coaching.  His message inspires audiences to review not only the content of what they are thinking and learning, but their interpretation of learning itself and its practices.

He is dedicated to a triple bottom line—people, planet, and profit—and to generating a healthier, more sustainable way to inhabit the planet.

Originally an attorney with the Chilean government, Julio made his way to the U.S. after the 1973 Chilean coup d’état.  He is based in Boulder, Colorado, with a travel schedule that takes him worldwide.

Newfield’s Think Tank of Thought Leaders and Collaborators

The work of Newfield is multidisciplinary, drawing on many fields of disciplines and integrating the learning and best practices to provide simple solutions on the other side of complexity.  Here is a partial list of the thought leaders with whom we collaborate:

Robert Dunham is founder of the Institute for Generative Leadership and was a vice president or chief operating officer in four major companies including Motorola. He holds two degrees from Stanford University, was on the staff that developed the three-year program of Ontological Design, and has studied the discipline of embodied learning extensively. He is Executive-in-Residence of the Adjunct Faculty in the MBA program in Sustainable Management at Presidio World College, and has taught at the University of San Francisco. Robert has combined communication and language, management practice design, and approaches to embodied learning that shift people’s capabilities for producing action as an integrated approach to building executive and management skill. The IGL discipline produces skills, rather than just theory, in management and leadership. The foundations of the discipline draw on the work of Drs. Fernando Flores, Humberto Maturana, John Austin, and John Searle in language and action; the work of Dr. Richard Strozzi Heckler in the discipline of embodied learning; and the insights of George Leonard into long-term practice as a path to mastery.

Bernard Lietaer is an internationally renowned economist and author, born in Belgium. Bernard studies monetary systems and promotes the idea that communities can benefit from creating their own local or complementary currency which circulates parallel with national currencies.  Bernard, author of The Future of Money: Beyond Greed and Scarcity (London: Random House, 2001) and the forthcoming Of Human Wealth, has been active in the realm of money systems for over 25 years in a wide variety of functions.  Bernard is also a graduate of Newfield’s personal leadership program and an adjunct faculty member.

Dr. Elisabet Sahtouris is an internationally known evolution biologist, futurist, author, and professor, teaching sustainable business and globalization as a natural evolutionary process.  She is a member of the World Wisdom Council and a fellow of the World Business Academy.  Her venues include The World Bank, Boeing, Siemens, Hewlett-Packard, Tokyo Dome Stadium, Australian National Government, Sao Paulo's leading business schools, State of the World Forums (New York and San Francisco) and the World Parliament of Religion.  Her books include EarthDance: Living Systems in Evolution.

Richard Tarnas. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, of American parents, Richard grew up in Michigan where he studied Greek, Latin, and the classics under the Jesuits. In 1968, he entered Harvard where he studied Western intellectual and cultural history and depth psychology, graduating with an A.B. cum laude in 1972. For ten years he lived and worked at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, studying with Joseph Campbell, Gregory Bateson, Huston Smith, and Stanislav Grof, and later served as director of programs and education. He received his Ph.D. from Saybrook Institute in 1976. From 1980 to 1990, he wrote The Passion of the Western Mind, a narrative history of Western thought which became a bestseller and continues to be a widely-used text in universities throughout the world. He is the founding director of the graduate program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco where he currently teaches. He also teaches on the faculty of the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara and gives many public lectures and workshops in the United States and abroad.

Susana Bloch is an internationally known research psychologist who specializes in neurophysiology and psychophysiology.  She graduated from the University of Chile in Santiago, then pursued graduate studies at Harvard and Boston University.  She is author of more than 100 scientific publications in international journals within the area of brain and behavior.  After many years of research, she created her own method, Alba Emoting, that allows anyone to learn to consciously induce, express, and modulate basic emotions using the body.

Jean-Francois Noubel is creator of TheTransitioner.org, a R&D network on Collective Intelligence, Wisdom, and Consciousness. It gathers pioneers who are already embodying the transition between the “old” conventional world and the next one. The discipline he applies on himself as a pioneer and researcher is integral. It involves all planes of the being: matter, body, feelings, mental, higher planes of consciousness, and soul. The masculine and the feminine, the yang and the yin, the conceptual and emotional intelligence are also part of the dance. Evolution and involution. It goes from eating to approaching sleep, from meditation to installing new empowering architectures in all kinds of systems.
